Welcome to the 2016–2017 school year and to the Parents’ Association! As a Milton Upper School parent, you are automatically a member of the Upper School Parents’ Association (USPA), whose mission is to:

  • Build community
  • Foster communication
  • Offer opportunities for parents to meet one another
  • Support the efforts of faculty, staff and administration
  • Sponsor events
  • Provide occasional treats for students

We are a self-sustaining organization, led by an executive committee and supported largely by parent dues, as well as by the School. Parents of students in Classes I–IV make up the Parents’ Association Board, which consists of four executive committee positions, two class representatives (one boarding and one day) for each grade, and several other positions that can be found on the Parents’ Association page of Milton’s website. Parent generosity is critical for the success of our activities, and we wholeheartedly thank you for your dues and your additional contributions during the year.

Please join us for our meetings either in person or, virtually, via webinar. Meetings are open to all parents and are generally held on the second Monday of each month. In addition to USPA business, each meeting features a guest speaker from the faculty or administration. These presentations offer great insight to the School and its programs.

The first open Parents’ Association meeting of the year is on Monday, September 12, at 7 p.m. in the development office conference room, which is located on the second floor of the Caroline Saltonstall Building. David Ball, Upper School principal, will be our featured guest. Mr. Ball is always an interesting, lively speaker, and this is a terrific opportunity to hear his thoughts as the new year unfolds. Please attend if you can, or join us remotely. Details for remote attendance will be emailed to you.

In a few weeks, you will receive an email with a schedule of Parents’ Association events for the year. The calendar function on the School’s website also provides Parents’ Association information. We hope that you will attend as many activities as you can. When you are on campus during the first couple days of school, please stop by the Parents’ Association welcome table to learn about how you can get involved. Volunteering is a great way to stay connected with Milton and to meet and work with fellow Milton parents.

Staying Informed

There are many ways to stay informed about what’s happening on campus:

  • This newsletter, Centre Connection, is published five times each year to inform parents about upcoming events and activities.
  • The Milton Academy website is a vital tool. Updated daily, it includes previews and photos of campus happenings in classes, arts, athletics, and in many other fun activities.
  • The Milton news and daily calendar are great ways to find out what is going on in your student’s day and weekend.
  • The Parents’ Association page will update you on events, volunteer opportunities and other news.
  • Two other informative and often-humorous sources of information are the School’s student newspapers, the Milton Measure and the Milton Paper. We encourage you to consider a subscription to one or both papers, which can come to you via regular mail, email or both.

Whether you are a returning parent or new to Milton, we hope you will be a part of life at Milton through the Parents’ Association.

Parents’ Weekend is October 21-22

Mark your calendars for Parents’ Weekend, October 21-22, when parents may shadow their child in classes; meet with teachers and advisors; and attend sports games and other events. After classes on Friday afternoon, join the Parents’ Association for an informal opportunity to meet, unwind and chat over some wine and cheese.

Class III and Class IV parents—mark your calendars! This year, Class III and Class IV parent dinners will be held on Thursday, October 20, the evening preceding Parents’ Weekend. Details about these events will be sent to Class III and IV parents soon.
