Fun during exam week and a sweet Valentine’s Day

barn-babies-2The stress of exam week was lessened a bit again this year with the return of the Barn Babies traveling petting zoo and exam treats sponsored by the Upper School Parents’ Association (USPA). Barn Babies, held in the Robert Saltonstall Gymnasium, was wildly popular, with students enjoying holding kittens, puppies, bunnies, chickens, and even a feisty goat. The next day, each student was able to indulge their sweet tooth with a candy bar. Valentine’s Day was made a bit sweeter with Donut Day. Thank you to Meredith Hall and Jen Jordan for bringing these beloved events back to campus. Students look forward to these special treat days made possible by our USPA volunteers.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day

Welcome to the Port of Havana, with colorful tropical flowers and fruits, fedoras, napkin “cigars” and a Latin beat playing in the background. This is the scene that greeted Milton’s faculty and staff inside Straus Library on Wednesday, February 13.

faculty-staff-brunchEach year, the Upper School Parents’ Association puts on the breakfast and luncheon, along with a gift for each member of our hard-working faculty and staff. A favorite part of the day is the free raffle with prizes donated by generous parents. Some of this year’s prizes included a Bahamas vacation, a flat-screen TV, and gift certificates to local restaurants. The faculty and staff of Milton, who make such an impact in our children’s daily lives, also enjoyed a Cuban menu prepared and served by appreciative parent volunteers.

Special thanks go out to Nicole Lippa for chairing the event, Leah Goldberg for planning the menu, Ann Jenness for transforming Straus with her decorations, Meredith Hall and Jen Jordan for procuring donations and organizing another fabulous raffle, Kate Paiz and Veronica Geroukos for purchasing and wrapping the gifts, and Amy O’Conner for bringing the drinks. And, of course, thank you to all who contributed time, skill, money and raffle items to enable another successful event.

Panel discussion and social hour with Milton leadership

On Tuesday, February 26, at 7 p.m. in Straus Library, the USPA hosted a panel discussion with Todd Bland, David Ball and Indu Singh, moderated by Rod Skinner, college counseling director. The evening began with drinks and light hors d’oeuvres, followed by a discussion at 8 p.m. The conversation was recorded for those who could not attend, available at: www.milton.edu/uspa-panel. Questions from remote listeners can be sent to uspa-questions@milton.edu.
