The students are firmly ensconced in their classes and activities, the campus is beautifully decorated in vibrant reds, yellows and oranges, and Parents’ Weekend is mere hours away!
Our Parents’ Association is pleased to welcome you to a new year and to invite you to join us for our myriad events that bring us together as members of the greater Milton Academy community. Whether attending or calling into our Monday night meetings, rolling up your sleeves to hand out donuts to students, driving students to a community service activity, or volunteering for one of our sponsored events, we welcome you.
As an Upper School parent, you are automatically a member of the Upper School Parents’ Association (USPA), whose mission is to:
- Build community
- Foster communication
- Offer opportunities for parents to meet one another
- Support the efforts of faculty, staff and administration
- Sponsor events
- Provide occasional treats for students
We are a self-sustaining organization, led by an executive committee and supported largely by parent dues, as well as by the School. Parents of students in Classes I–IV make up the Parents’ Association Board, which consists of four executive committee positions, two class representatives (one boarding and one day) for each grade, and several other positions that can be found on the Parents’ Association page of Milton’s website. Parent generosity is critical for the success of our activities, and we wholeheartedly thank you for your dues and your additional contributions during the year.
Get involved!
Whether you are able to help once a week or once in a while, there are many opportunities to be involved in the Parents’ Association and with the School:
- Parents’ Association Meetings Our monthly Parents’ Association meetings provide an opportunity to hear from the School’s faculty and administration about topics of interest, as well as from Parents’ Association leadership about upcoming activities. Meetings, open to all Upper School parents, are held on the first or second Monday of each month in the CSG Conference Room from 7–9 p.m. Please join us for our next meeting on November 14. You can join us either in person or remotely. Details for connecting to the meeting via webinar are sent in reminder emails leading up to each meeting.
- Parents’ Association Coffees Please drop by for some coffee and conversation at our USPA sponsored coffees held about every six weeks from 8–9:30 a.m. in Straus. We had a wonderful turnout at our first coffee on September 19. Our next coffee will be on November 7.
- Parents’ Association Events The many Parents’ Association events throughout the year are a wonderful opportunity to get involved and meet fellow Milton parents. Download the calendar of Parents’ Association activities from our webpage, and contact us if you would like to get involved.
Fall Re-Cap
During the opening of School, the Parents’ Association held a New Parent Welcoming Reception. USPA President Ann Marie Oliver and Vice President Ann Jenness welcomed the group and offered their goals for the year. Thank you to the New Parent Welcoming Committee and a cadre of volunteers who hosted receptions and served as resources to the newest members of our parent community and to the many new families who joined us under the tent on the Quad.
The students always welcome treat days! Thank you to Eileen Hogan and Bridgette Minicus for coordinating a team of volunteers to offer over 80 dozen donuts and 10 dozen apples and clementines to the students during recess. The next refreshment day is November 18.
We hope you are all able to attend Parents’ Weekend and can join us at the many events sponsored by the USPA over the course of the weekend. Please refer to the Parents’ Weekend calendar for details.
Finally, we thank you for supporting the Parents’ Association through your dues and your attendance at our events. Please contact us with any questions, or to get involved. Visit the Parents’ Association page on the School’s Web site for a calendar of events and for contact information.
We look forward to seeing you,
