Duke University Speech and Debate Success

19-10-08_dukeMilton speech and debate students traveled to Duke University in early October, joining 38 other schools from 11 states in a weekend tournament competition. Milton students earned several awards in a variety of categories:

Ben Simpson (II): 5th Dramatic Interpretation
Jana Amin (II): 6th Informative
Neha Modak (III): 3rd Extemporaneous; 1st Impromptu
Jack Burton (II): 3rd Humorous Interpretation
Jack Burton (II)/Talia Sherman (II): 1st Duo Interpretation
Karol Querido (II)/Alison Blake (II):
2nd overall Novice Public Forum
Karol: 1st speaker
Alison: 6th speaker

 

19-09-22_MSDL-2Milton Debaters Qualify for MSDL State Tournament in April 2020

On Saturday, September 21, Milton debate students earned qualification to the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League State Tournament in April 2020. Tony Wang (I) and Timothy Colledge (II) advanced to the quarterfinals at Boston Latin School, participating with 22 local public and private secondary schools. Debaters are examining whether or not the EU should join the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

Yale Invitational Results

19-09-15_yale02-2In September, Milton speech and debate students joined their peers from 233 schools—representing 26 states—at the 27th Annual Yale University High School Speech and Debate Tournament in New Haven, Connecticut. At the event, Milton students Nyla Sams and Jack Burton advanced to the final rounds of their respective events (original oratory and humorous interpretation), earning 4th and 6th Place honors.

 

University of Kentucky Speech and Debate Season Opener

19-09-08_kentucky02Milton students joined 108 schools from 25 states at the University of Kentucky Speech and Debate Season Opener in early September. The competition offered students the opportunity to secure bids to the Tournament of Champions event next April at the same site. Milton came away with TOC bids and awards in the following events:

Neha Modak: Extemporaneous Speaking (4th place)
Nyla Sams: Original Oratory & Informative Speaking (2nd place in both events)**
Tony Wang & Timothy Colledge: Public Forum (double octofinalists)*
